K072: Paleoclimate Reconstruction from the Terrestrial Record in Antarctica: the Use of Pedogenic Carbonate in the McMurdo Dry Valleys
Our research will derive a new terrestrial paleotemperature proxy based on the isotopic composition of pedogenic carbonate in soils of the McMurdo Dry Valleys and Darwin region of Antarctica. The proxy will allow us to test hypotheses of climatically influenced changes in hydrology and glacier dynamics, provide corroboration of ice-core based isotopic paleotemperature proxies, and potentially allow reconstruction of past atmospheric CO2 isotopic composition
